Prerequisites

Prerequisites:

You should have a formal education of at least two years at the university level in both languages. You should also be familiar with using a personal computer in a Windows or Mac environment. If you hold a bachelor’s degree in English, Spanish, or Translation, you will find the translation program a suitable resource to prepare for the ATA exam. Those with a bachelor’s degree in other areas should view the translation program as an essential first step toward their goal of taking the ATA examination.

Certification Requirements:

While not mandatory, most translators seeking certification will have a relevant degree or significant experience in translation. There are no formal educational requirements to sit for the exam, but a bachelor's degree in translation studies is often considered beneficial.

To register for the exam, one must be a member of the American Translators Association.

The exam is taken under proctor supervision to ensure integrity.
